2026 Inaugural Illinois-UAE Trade Mission Highlights

In January 2026, the Illinois Association for Global Trade (IAGT) led the first-ever State of Illinois and City of Chicago delegation to the United Arab Emirates. The trade mission brought together public- and private-sector leaders to explore opportunities for bilateral trade, investment, innovation, and economic development between Illinois and the UAE.

The delegation participated in meetings with organizations including MGX, DAMAC, Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce, Dubai Chamber of Commerce, the Ministry of Education, Hub71, and the American University of Dubai. Key discussions focused on AI and advanced technology, data center expansion, investment partnerships, economic development, and long-term business and academic collaboration.

The mission helped establish a foundation for sustained Illinois–UAE trade and investment relationships, positioning Illinois as a partner in technology, infrastructure, innovation, and global investment.
